GROW OLD SERIES
Objects that are open to interpretation and have the potential of developing in different ways acquire memories and emotional attachment over time. How can design promote this bond between objects and their users and thus prolong their relationship allowing them to grow old together?
This project is motivated by a desire to create solutions to the negative effects of obsolescence, excessive consumerism, technology and lack of emotional attachment between users and their products. "Grow Old Series" consists of objects that have the ability to transform and recreate themselves, representing cycles.
Products Showcase: Grow Old Series
The Regenerator is a bubble lamp that gives rebirth to itself with time. The bubble machine inside the base structure creates bubbles that are reflected with the red LED spot lights from the bottom. Unexpected random shapes, sounds and different colors occur during the creation of the bubbles.
The Transformer is a combination of a knitting machine, a table and a lamp. While unraveling the knit on the lamp, it recreates itself in the machine allowing us to observe the analog transformation. At the same time, the user hears the voices of the machine and observe the shadows created by the lamp while rotating.
Eliminator is a table lamp which has different light sources in it. It uses paper as a curtain shade to the light on the top and the shredded papers as the nest of a new light at the bottom. Users can personalize the lamp by their choice of paper from magazines, newspapers, etc.
The Revitalizer is a wax-lamp that re-creates itself over time, allowing its owner to re-use it and observe the growing-old,dying and rebirth cycle of the lamp.
