Diplopia Featured: WIN Awards '14

Diplopia Coffee Table is among the nominees in WIN Awards 2014 Furniture Category that passed the highly competitive first round and is featured on top of the shortlist.

Diplopia Coffee Table is a very strong candidate for winning the award of 2014! The following explains the judging criteria of the contest which is in line with Diplopia Concept's ideology: "The judges will be looking for designs that are helping to shape the future of interior design, whilst keeping within the boundaries of commercial viability and sustainability. Another key factor will be the quality of the presentation; how the architect or designer conveys his or her ideas to the panel."

According to the article of wantoday.com this year’s expert panel of industry specialists included George Khachfe, Managing Director of Poliform UK, Fionnuala Johnston, Senior Designer for Interior Design Styles & Seasonal Events at John Lewis and James Mair, Managing Director of Viaduct. Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk, Co-managing Director of JOI-Design joined them remotely.

On top of the Furniture Category's Shortlist, Diplopa was described as: "Diplopia by Merve Kahraman Products & Interiors. The judges were intrigued by this ‘unusual’ coffee table with a ‘clever optical illusion’ that gives the appearance of ‘different thicknesses’. Almost ‘ornamental’ but also fully functional, they loved the ‘combination of materials’ and sizes, and also the ‘lovely brass base’."

According to WorldArchitectureNews.com: "The Diplopia coffee table was conceived from the idea of creating an object that conveys an optical illusion. The stereographic effect is produced through combining different kinds of marble. Each cube is individually handcrafted and assembled together. The asymmetric form of the marble table top adds to the illusion of diplopia.

'Diplopia' coffee table brings a playful and elegant touch to interiors. Two different marble combination options are available: Alexandre Black, Tasos white and Silver grey marble or Rosso levanto, rosa pink and tasos white marble. Monochrome and coloured versions of diplopia come with polished/unpolished brass, copper or black painted metal legs. Bigger sizes are available upon request."
